Get Trained

NYTAG provides culturally sensitive educational trainings to organizations, groups, and legislators/Policy makers throughout New York

Policy Makers

The New York Transgender Advocacy Group (NYTAG) offers policy makers a unique professional workshop on how to best address the needs of their LGBT constituents.  Using the most recent demographic data, real-world case studies, and personal stories from members of their constituencies, this training is designed to equip legislators with the tools they need to fight for the civil rights of TGNC New Yorkers.  By learning about the history and impact of gender-based legislation and what policy makers can do to champion these bills, participants will learn how to actively advocate for members of the TGNC community.

Overall Objectives

  • Develop appropriate language to describe members of the TGNC community, their experiences, and their specific needs
  • Discuss gender-based legislation and how it affects TGNC people at the individual, community, and institutional levels
  • Reflect on the role of policy makers in perpetuating stigma, violence, and inequity within the TGNC community
  • Apply effective strategies to better advocate on behalf of the TGNC community at the local, state, and federal levels
