Policy Makers

The New York Transgender Advocacy Group (NYTAG) educate policy makers on Transgender & Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) issues and how to best serve them. Our interactive curriculum includes case studies allowing participants to learn through real life examples of serving the TGNC community. This 4-module training is directed at policy makers with the intention of establishing an effective relationship with the TGNC community. Every module is constructed to cover the importance of using affirming language. While learning about the impact of gender based legislation, their roles as policy makers in perpetuating stigma and what they can do to advocate for the TGNC community.

Overall Objectives

  • Develop appropriate language to describe members of the TGNC community, their experiences, and their specific needs
  • Discuss gender-based legislation and how it affects TGNC people at the individual, community, and institutional levels
  • Reflect on the role of policy makers in perpetuating stigma, violence, and inequity within the TGNC community
  • Apply effective strategies to better advocate on behalf of the TGNC community at the local, state, and federal levels
